Laurence Poole was born in London in 1963. He now lives in Hastings, East Sussex, England, with his studio in nearby St. Leonards-on-Sea. He was educated at Croydon College of Art, Chelsea College of Art & Design, the University of Brighton and The California Sculpture Academy.
Laurence is a multi-media artist, working in sculpture, printing, ceramics, painting, drawing and collage, however he is best known for his assemblage artworks, using everyday 'found objects' such as vinyl records, model cars, vintage cameras, even telephones.
Bronze plays an increasingly significant role in Laurence's oeuvre: at his studio he has constructed a foundry where he casts his own sculptures, utilising both the lost-wax and sandcasting methods. By acclaimed found object sculptor Laurence Poole. With impeccable execution, objects are presented as an archive of vintage products, a celebration of the finest industrial design. As such, the work often evokes a certain nostalgia, the recognition of a cherished possession long-since lost, then miraculously rediscovered courtesy of what Laurence describes as his 'juxtaposition of idiosyncratic multiples'. Laurence's work is collected internationally and he regularly undertakes sculpture commissions (you can commission an artwork via Decoratum)
